I’m going to get this over with: With a sound that’s become signature to the San Francisco indie scene, Cool Ghouls is certainly… on track.
I feel better now.
The SF four-piece definitely has some chops when it comes to a period-perfect sound, starting with the shuffling riffs and slapback-delayed vocals. Their self-titled debut is out now on Empty Cellar Records (no surprise there) and was produced by Tim Cohen of The Fresh & Onlys/Magic Trick (again, no surprise). The real star of the show here, though, the video for “Queen Sophie,” which features a GoPro strapped to a model train and enough PBR to bring a horde of beanie/glasses types knocking at the front door.
